Dressing The Part!

I've found that the biggest struggle clients face when planning their portraits is what to wear. You dress yourself every day based on your personal style but the struggle comes when you're deciding how do you want to be portrayed for years to come. The answer is much more simple then people might think, stop overthinking it! Here are a few simple steps to looking your best:

1. Look like you’re all going to the same event.

  • Always make sure that everyone in the photo is dressed like they’re going to the same event, meaning, if one of you is in formal attire, the other one isn’t in a t-shit, shorts, and flip-flops.

2. Dress in the same color tones.

  • There are 3 color tones we want you to dress in:
    • Light tone: For example, sky blue.
    • Mid tone: For example, royal blue.
    • Dark tone: For example, navy blue.

3. Avoid heavy prints and patterns.

  • Keep any patterns or textures to a minimum, as we don’t want the clothing to distract from you.

4. Wear clothing that you love yourself in.

  • If there are parts of your body that you love to show off, make sure your clothes support that. Likewise, if there are parts of your body that you don’t love, make sure the clothing conceals that.

Miami Family Photography | Diaz Family

Since 2011 I have had the pleasure of capturing and watching the Diaz family grow. For this year's annual family portraits we walked the Everglades where we were met with sunshine followed by some clouds that were perfect for portrait shots. Chic, debonair and style comes to mind each time I get to see this beautiful family. Their outfit choices were on point for the setting and every year it is wonderful to see the Diaz's son grow into quite the little gentleman. Family sessions will always be a very special part of In Focus Studio and we are so grateful that we continue to be part of making memories for each of them for year's to come.

Hawks Cay Wedding | Marian and José

One word for Marian and Jose's Hawks Cay wedding, floral dreams! Petal Productions pulled out all the stops from the ceremony to the reception. At every corner this day was dripping with elegant white blooms. The Event Studio crafted a wedding day for Marian and Jose that combined classic with regal details. Speaking of regal, Marian's Christian Louboutin wedding shoes were perfection for her bridal style. Guests were treated to a transformed ballroom by LPS Productions, Imperial Party Rentals and Miami Style Events. Willy Chirino and Eventus Marketing brought out everyone onto the dancing floor and made sure this wedding reception was one to remember. I hope you enjoy this day as much as I enjoyed capturing it all.

Biltmore Wedding | Jessica and Danny

Jessica and Danny's Biltmore wedding was full of all their favorite things and the most important aspect to them was the photography. They wanted to make sure every moment and detail from their shabby chic vintage style celebration was captured. The day began at the Biltmore where the bride and groom got ready and had their beautiful first look followed by strolling the grounds for some wedding portraits before their ceremony at Douglas Entrance. Jessica looked flawless in her Maggie Sottero gown from Brides of Florida and her classic bridal hair style by Lauren Villalobos.

Behind the scenes planners Jorge and Ismael from Events by Alejandrina who also did the catering made sure no detail was over looked. The reception space was transformed with flowers by Ala Flowers where guests danced the night away to DJ Junior and enjoyed an hora loca by Sunflower Entertainment. This amazing wedding day ended with a stunning cake by Events by Alejandrina and an Aroma Espresso Bar perfect to keep the guests on their dancing feet well into the night. I hope you enjoy seeing all the wonderful wedding moments between Jessica and Danny.

Miami Engagement Photos | Kim and Matt

Meet Kim and Matt and their fur baby frenchie Lucy. It is no secret that I am a huge lover of french bull dog's and this cutie was such a sweet addition to this engagement session. Kim and Matt met through mutual friends at a party and the rest is history. Their love grew and on an Easter Sunday Matt hid an engagement ring in a golden egg left for Kim to find during the egg hunt. He got down on one knee and Kim said yes. Such a cute idea for a proposal! For their engagement photos we started out by going for a casual stroll and stopping for some wine with a picnic. The day ended with a stylish outfit change and some portraits down by the marina. It was a wonderful love filled afternoon.

NYC Senior Portraits | Francesca

With plans to attend college in the city, Francesca's NYC senior portraits incorporated all her favorite iconic locations. With her love for One Direction, Gossip Girls actress Leighton Meester, and taking selfies, plus her love for fashion, we had a packed day to show all her favorite things.

We started with some shopping in Soho, followed by some glam portraits in Central Park and then a rooftop in Hell's Kitchen. We ended with some fashion forward portraits at night in Time Square. Francesca is one of five children, I have had the pleasure of capturing all the kids over the year's and several milestones. I always feel so blessed that I get to capture life's most important moments for a family.

Miami Children's Photography | Greyson 6 Months

Bringing you some Monday sweetness with baby Greyson's six month photo shoot. What a difference a year makes! I captured Greyson's mom Rosie when she was pregnant and then a newborn shoot once baby Greyson arrived followed by his baptism and now this wonderful six month milestone. Six month's is one of the best ages. This little man was curious, sitting up on his own and as you will see from those darling expressions wondering what exactly I was doing. So many sweet memories with this family and lot's more to come!

The Rusty Pelican Wedding | Myrel and Alfred

Last week I shared Myrel and Alfred's engagement photos and today I am sharing their classically elegant wedding at the Rusty Pelican. This wonderful wedding day began at the Mandarin Oriental where Myrel had hair and makeup by Deborah Concepcion and the time had finally come for her to put on her Allure gown from Brides of Florida. Her something blue, a stunning pair of Badgley Mischka wedding shoes. First some bubbly and then the sweetest first look for the bride and her groom before the 'I Do's' and their beautiful reception. Event planners Alexis Morante and Anamaria Martinez flawlessly planned a day full of beauty along with gorgeous florals by Alexis Morante, catering from the Rusty Pelican, paper design by Timeless Impressions Invitations, and an all white wedding cake by Todo Dulces. DJ Ubis kept everyone on their dancing feet and this memorable day came to an end with a wedding these now newlyweds had always dreamed of having.

Vizcaya Museum and Gardens | Myrel and Alfred

Just a month before the big day, I met Myrel and Alfred at the  Vizcaya Museum and Gardens in Miami for their engagement photos. It was a beautiful August day (despite the heat) and as you will see their chemistry is palable. This setting, that buttery golden light and the sweetest love, this day was total engagement photo dreams. Myrel and Alfred had those candid moments I adore between couples. When they exchange a look, a smile, and laugh at something only their two hearts recognize, that is love.

Miami Newborn Session | Greyson

Is there anything better then baby toes?! Meet Greyson and his sweet newborn session. Come take in all those darling baby details!. Greyson was nice and sleepy and all bundled up for his session. While he was in his dream world, I was in newborn heaven. I had the opportunity to capture Greyson's mama's maternity session and since his birth I have captured his baptism, 6 month and 1 year shoot. Can't wait to see and capture more of this now (not so) little man!

Sweet 15 Old Hollywood Party | Ricky

Remember debonair Ricky and his NYC portrait session? Click here to see it if you missed it. Today I wanted to share his sweet 15 Old Hollywood themed birthday party. Affectionately called Papucho by those close to him, Ricky had a party surrounded by his nearest and dearest. No detail was overlooked for this celebration and throughout the party you could find everything glam and Old Hollywood. He danced with his abuela, his father shared a touching toast, he cut the cake in style, and an evening of dancing ensued. A wonderful night for an incredible young man who is definitely going places. I am looking forward to capturing more of his future milestones!

First Birthday Shoot | Camden

There is nothing more precious then baby rolls and those baby smiles. Camden's All Eyes on Me Session celebrated his first birthday. I have had the pleasure of watching Camden's family grow since 2011 from his big brother's milestone sessions, his mom's maternity shoots and holiday family sessions. Being able to capture these moments and watch a family grow is one of the greatest joys of being a photographer. I can't wait to see what's in store for little Camden and continue to make memories with this little man's growing family.

Portrait Session NYC | Ricky

Ricky, also affectionally known as Papucho by those close to him celebrated his quinceanero (sweet 15) with a portrait session in NYC. He loves baseball, soccer and history so we incorporated his passions by shooting at Yankee Stadium, Central Park, and Brooklyn Bridge. This young man was all things dapper and stylish. His outfit choices reflected his debonair style and a few months later would be celebrating this milestone birthday with a very fitting Hollywood themed party. I hope I get to see more of Ricky and I can't wait to see what the future holds for him!

Palm Beach Wedding Inspiration at The Breakers

Hello engagement season! In it's honor I am sharing this beautiful Palm Beach wedding inspiration at The Breakers Hotel who also provided the floral design and decor for this shoot. It was a collaboration with some very talented creatives, including London couture dress designer Suzie Turner (who has dressed celebrities for the Oscars) and provided the stunning feathered gown with red lace accents. Our models from Evolution Model Management also wore Chic Parisien, Berta Bridal, J. Del Olmo and Badgley Mischka along with some gorgeous accessories by Maria Elena. Deborah Conception created four beauty look's for hair and makeup perfect for the glam bride. Stylist Erika Glocher put on the finishing touches and we ended with a table for two where both the gown, Wildflower linens  and chair accessories by M The Collection stunned!

This styled shoot was also featured in Grace Ormonde’s Wedding Style where The Breakers had never been published before. I can't wait to be back at this venue!

6 Month Photoshoot | Sienna

All eyes on Sienna! This little is the youngest daughter of Elissa who has been at In Focus Studio since 2008. Not only is she a joy to work with I also have had the pleasure of capturing communions, confirmations, family portraits, baby portraits, and most recently Elissa's oldest daughter, Sabrina's sweet 15’s. Now it's Sienna's turn. There is nothing sweeter then an inquisitive six month old full of laughter. I can't wait to see this little one grow over the years and to continue to capture those ever important family memories with this wonderful family!

Westin Colonnade Wedding | Erica and Juan

I first met Erika and Juan when they won a complimentary engagement session with me through the Bloomingdales Bridal Show. We had so much fun together and I was thrilled when they asked me to capture their Westin Colonnade wedding.

The day began with beauty by Styles by NM and Erika's beautiful glam style. Her all white bouquet complete with oversized orchids by Marta Villar Floral Design was the perfect addition to complete Erika's bridal look. A classic vintage car from Ara Limo brought Erika and her father to the Coral Gables Congregational Church for the touching ceremony.

At the reception the tables were lined with linens by Leyani and elegant centerpieces by Marta Villar Floral Design along with a wonderful cake by Elegant Temptations. UBI brought the ambiance with lighting as well as keeping every dancing well into the night. Country artist Tom Jackson was also on hand to play some of Erika and Juan's favorites. The highlight of this wedding day was when the groom played the saxophone and serenaded his bride. It was the perfect ending to this love filled day.

NYC Engagement Photos | Heidi and Reimel

NYC engagement photos are always such a treat! Still dreaming about this day with Heidi and Reimel whose session incorporated so many iconic locations. How stunning are this duo?! The outfit choices were perfect and loved how Heidi's outfit felt very Sex in the City. We strolled through Central Park, stopped to admire Tiffany & Co, took in the hustle and bustle of Times Square, rode in a classic NY taxi cab and revered over the beauty of St. Patrick Cathedral. We closed out a fun filled day of shooting with an evening subway ride and a intimate portrait of Heidi and Reimel.

Miami Maternity Session | Rosie and Eric

Rosie, plus Eric, plus baby makes three! I went to Rosie and Eric's home to capture the joy and excitement of their newest addition. Their cute fur babies joined in the fun and we ended the day at the beach with toes in the sand and lot's of laughs. You could feel the love between this mama and dad to be and I so loved witnessing how much fun they have together. There is nothing quite like the joy that a new baby brings. More to come from this beautiful family!

Quinceanera Photography Miami | Angie

Love when I get to continue photographing the same family. I shot Angie's sister Arianna for her quinceanaera (sweet 15) back in 2009. Angie wanted a mix of traditional classic imagery with a fun modern twist for her quinceanaera photography session.

We started the day at the beautiful grounds of the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens. Angie chose to pair her gorgeous gown with a black masquerade mask and an oversized rose for a more theatrical look.

Next we headed to Mattheson Hammock Park where Angie chose a more casual look to reflect her personal style and a modern sophisticated look to end with. She also included her childhood pup who was as sweet as can be. I can't wait to see Angie and her sister again for all their future celebrations!

Keywest Newborn Photographer | Camden

Meet adorable newborn Camden, the newest member of the Lockwood family. Since 2011 I have had the pleasure of traveling down to Key West to photograph the Lockwood family. It all began when Jessica was pregnant with their first son Kellen. From that maternity shoot followed by Kellen's 1 month, 3 months, 6 months and 1 year sessions, it has been so wonderful to see little Kellen grow.

When Jessica found out she was pregnant for the second time, I returned to Key West for Jessica's maternity session followed by Camden's newborn session. There is nothing like those newborn snuggles and we even had the opportunity to use a blanket that was specially made for Camden in this shoot.

Stay tuned on the blog to see the rest of Camden's first year.
